Knowledge Manager - Employee Experience Habitat for Humanity International
Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is a nonprofit organization that helps families build and improve places to call home. With more than 1,000 affiliates in the U.S. and approximately 70 country programs around the world, HFHI welcomes thousands of new staff and board members to our ministry every year.
This results in the need to support global staff in adequately accessing the information they need at the right time and in the right format. After all, an organization’s greatest strength is the ability of their staff to do the work they need to do. Business needs and changes in the global staff working environment of hybrid or fully remote working ushered in rapid expansion of the knowledge management function. To respond to this, the KM function was tasked with supporting the curation of knowledge and the creation of efficient intranets that worked within the organization resulting in the development and launch of the International Knowledge Center to respond to field office information and knowledge needs.
Hear the challenges experienced, the analysis that went into the decision to implement the selected solutions, and the current experience with the solutions implemented. Specifically, we'll look at the following areas that experienced rapid innovation, i.e. where we started and where we are now.
• Taxonomy and Architecture • Naming conventions and metadata • Centralized storage – version control - collaboration • Automating repetitive tasks • Knowledge Flow: Capturing tacit knowledge (succession planning, on-boarding, board of directors) • After Action Review / Lessons Learned
Learning Objectives:
To describe a practical approach to ramping up Knowledge Management Processes in an international NGOs in response to real business needs.
Be aware of possible challenges and how HFHI negotiated these constraints.
Describe the value of automation in content management in areas such as content retirement, development of scenario specific dashboards which provide information at a glance of staff interaction with the content availed through the intranets.
